The global launch of the 50th anniversary festivities for the famed Italian move “La Dolce Vita” began today in Stockholm onboard the Costa Atlantica. Anita Eckberg, one of the stars of the film, was the honorary guest of Costa Cruises’ during a luncheon in Stockholm celebrating the anniversary along with specially-invited guests. Eckberg is staying on the ship for the duration of the ship’s itinerary, a 7-night sailing calling on some of the best cities of the Baltic including Copenhagen, Stockholm, Tallin, St. Petersburg, and Warnemunde/Berlin.
Costa Atlantica (86,000-tons; 2,114 dbl occ) is the ideal location for the celebration of the movie’s anniversary. The ship itself is a tribute to Federico Fellini’s movies and Italian culture. Each deck is dedicated to a different Fellini movie. In addition, walls of the public areas are embellished by images of the films, including “La Dolce Vita.” Images featured are original paintings by Milo Manara, one of the most appreciated Italian comic book creators while poster-size photos are created by Tazio Secchiaroli, a well known Italian “paparazzo.”
One of Milo Manara’s drawings features Fellini’s famous Swedish muse Anita Ekberg during her well-known bath scene from “La Dolce Vita” in Rome's famous Trevi fountain. The film made Anita Ekberg world famous overnight.“With La Dolce Vita, I naturally became an ambassador for both Sweden and Italy, and to have a cruise ship dedicated to me and Fellini and La Dolce Vita is a great honor” said Eckberg.
“We are very proud that Ms. Ekberg - the very symbol of La Dolce Vita - chose to help us celebrate the anniversary of the movie while on board Costa Atlantica, an Italian ship dedicated to Fellini’s films and magic atmospheres,” said Marco Rosa, area director for the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia and South Africa with Costa Cruises. “This confirms Costa Cruises’ role as the only ambassador for ‘Italian-made’ excellence in the cruise industry.”
Costa's ships operate in Scandinavia during the summer season. In 2010, nearly 240 Costa ship calls are planned in Scandinavia, including 22 in Stockholm.
