Along with her sister ship, the Costa Luminosa, the new Costa Deliziosa (92,600-tons; 2,260 dbl occ) is the newest “flagship,” of the Costa fleet, offering the most exclusive and innovative elements designed for Costa’s most discerning clientele. Features of the Costa Deliziosa combine to create an experience of “pure enjoyment” that will last throughout the cruise. The ship is designed to delight guests with the exclusivity of its atmospheres, its welcoming and warm service, space and comfort of its public areas, and private cabins with state-of-the-art entertainment facilities and the beauty of its itineraries, Dubai and Northern Europe.
Designed by celebrated architect and interior designer, Joseph Farcus, the Costa Deliziosa stands out on account of her exclusive and spectacular design. This state-of-the-art design is characterized by the use of premium materials such as various types of marble and granite, stucco applied by spatula using the technique known as “spatolato veneziano” and other decorative interior finishes including “parchment scroll” lamé, refined Zebrano wood, Wenge timber, Murano glass, stylish polished and glazed steel and 970 “La Murrina” Murano chandeliers.
The stunning atrium, an focal point of all Costa ships, features fine works of art, including “Sphere” by Arnaldo Pomodoro, and “Delizia fisica e Delizia intellettuale” (Physical Delight and Intellectual Delight), a piece by leading contemporary Italian painter Mario Donizetti. The onboard art gallery offers works of artists featured on the Costa Deliziosa and other ships in the Costa fleet. In addition, it also features an Art Director, entirely dedicated to offering complimentary guided tours for guests to discover the rich art collection of the ship, which includes 340 original works.
Incredible Innovations
In addition, there are a variety of entertainment options onboard, all based on cutting edge technology. These include the ship’s five “C Wonders:”
- Spectacularly entertaining 4D cinema where sight, sound, touch, and special effects come together to create the ultimate sensory experience at sea.
- For sports aficionados, an 18-hole golf simulator let guests “hit the links at sea” on 37 virtual courses, while a putting green on one of the ship’s top decks offers a real-life golf experience.
- Race car fans will enjoy the ship’s Grand Prix race car driving simulator, one of the most accurate representations of Formula One racing available.
- A “PlayStation World” area on the ship is dedicated exclusively to PS-3 video games. Guests are also able to enjoy PlayStation 3 from the comfort of their cabins with “on demand” games for rent. Themed evenings with PlayStation also are planned throughout the cruise on the large screen overlooking the lido deck.
- A roller skating track on one of the ship’s top decks will allow guests to try roller skating with strap-and-go “Skorpion” skates that attach to one’s shoes.
Wi-fi internet connection is also available both in-cabins and in public areas.
In keeping with Costa’s commitment to environmental compliance, the Costa Luminosa and the Costa Deliziosa are the first ships in Italy to be equipped for “cold ironing,” the system whereby vessels are plugged into shoreside electrical power, enabling generators to be shut down during stopovers in port. Other environmental highlights include 100% separation of waste onboard including the recycling of aluminum, glass and other waste streams, while water is produced from desalination plants. The Costa Deliziosa also features various additional special emission-reducing measures.
The ship’s theatre seats 800 guests and features 14,000 LED lights, all working together to create a true “show within a show.” Extending over three levels, this sophisticated theater rivals similar entertainment facilities on land.
An expansive lido deck screen also features special technology which can be used for daytime projection of video clips as well as nighttime film screenings. It may be enjoyed at all times thanks to the retractable glass magrodome that covers it on the central lido deck.
Award-Winning Spa
Spa-goers will enjoy Costa’s renowned Samsara Spa (3,500 m² on this ship) which features special spa cabins with direct access to the spa via private elevator and stairway. Among the spa’s numerous features are Ayurvedic treatments, a wellness restaurant and numerous amenities including Thalassotherapy and Turkish Baths. This spectacular wellness haven will also feature a new Kinesis Room by Technogym, a unique system based on natural movements through a patented system of pulleys for resistance training. It may be used individually or for groups. The Costa Deliziosa, along with the Costa Luminosa, are the only two ships in the world to feature this type of room.
Exceptional Culinary Offerings
The Club Deliziosa, the ship’s specialty restaurant, features menus created by the revered Ettore Bocchia, Executive Chef at the Michelin-star restaurant “Mistral” at the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio (Lake Como), Italy. His exceptional cuisine focuses on the very best traditional Italian cuisine and top quality ingredients.
A prestigious wine list created by international sommeliers features Amarone Stella Aneri Costa Deliziosa Special Reserve 2004, a limited edition of the well known Italian wine, produced and matured in 15 barrels set aside for the ships in the Costa fleet. The wine lists also feature other top Italian and international wines. In addition to the Club Deliziosa, the ship features a main restaurant and buffet as well as the Samsara Restaurant, available for guests staying in Samsara accommodations. The menu features light, sophisticated dishes. There is also a popular “Chocolate Bar” on the ship, perfect for an after-dinner delight.
Incredible Views
Guests will enjoy incredible views both inside the ship as well as outside. 772 of the 1,130 cabins feature balconies, which amounts to 68 percent of all accommodations onboard. This makes the Costa Deliziosa, along with sister ship Costa Luminosa, the fleet members with the highest percentage of private balconies.
